What makes the IDEAL BODY?

perfect-body-header1

So far in this art class both the grade 11 and 12 classes have been building up our skills in creative process, sketching, technique and drawing skills. Now we are going to put it all to the test with summative drawing unit assignment. In this assignment both classes will be drawing a part of the human body with as much realism as they can. Then each class will have a different task to add to the body in colour through the mode of tattoo design or body modification.

Questions to Consider:

What makes the perfect body for men and for women?

In what ways do people modify or make changes to their body?

Why do people modify or adorn their bodies? What is the purpose for it?

How might the changes people make to their bodies relate to cultural practice, a need for the ideal image and a sense of individuality?

If I could be there I would!

Today you are to continue on the background research and collection of magazine elements for your summative. Refer to the Magazine Design Summative sheet for steps.  You should be completing Step 1 by the end of today!!!

1. Fill in the Magazine Design Elements sheet that I handed out yesterday.

2. After that make sure you have completed the following steps before tomorrow’s class.

[  ] c) Source Article– You are to find an educational article online, that matches your magazines theme. Print, annotate and submit.

Must haves for your source:

  • Should be able to copy and paste your article into word
  • 400-1000 Word Length
  • Know who the Author is
  • Class appropriate
  • Educational- meaning it should teach your audience something, not just be about entertainment

[  ] d) Collection: You will need to find the following things to be placed in your magazine. Start a new folder on your desktop labeled, Magazine, to place these items in. Make sure that all your sourced imagery is large format so that it doesn’t become pixilated once placed into Photoshop.

  • Source Magazine Masthead
  • A Barcode
  • Main Cover Image (This should relate to your article content)
  • Main Article Image
  • 3 Smaller images to be placed on your spread
  • Any other images you may want to include on the cover or in the spread

Ice Cold Summer Fest Poster

FINAL POSTER2]

Next Wednesday June 12th is the annual Burnhamthorpe Summer Fest Barbeque. It is the biggest Burnhamthorpe Social event of the year. Where else can you get a REAL burger and pop for ONLY $2?!? I will tell you… No where!

It has been assigned to the design class to create a new and improved Summer Fest Poster to advertise this event. The posters that are already up are lacking in design in a major way. So we are going to create a fantastic new poster that is eye catching, modern and still informative.

Follow the Photoshop tutorial handout to create your own version of the awesome poster above. Remember to have patience and try your best to trouble shoot your problems.

You can watch parts of the following video to help you if needed. This is a similar but no exactly the same poster design in a more advanced version of Photoshop.
